Tradify allows you to easily locate your staff members via the Map function. There are two methods in which Tradify gathers GPS data. The first (and default) method ensures the preservation of the device's battery. However, it also lowers the location accuracy. Whereas the second method ensures location accuracy at the expense of the devices battery life.
Saving battery by tracking cellphone
When the user comes into range of a new cell tower, their device will send their coordinates back to Tradify's servers. At which point, their location will be updated on the map view. Depending on where cell towers are based, it could take seconds to minutes for the location to update.
Here's a quick look at how the second method works:
The second and more accurate method will ensure the user's device continually transmits coordinates back to Tradify's servers for as long as they have the Tradify app running. By using this method, the location would update every few seconds. Be aware that the battery drain is much more substantial than method 1. For this reason, we don't recommend using it.
Enabling better accuracy for location tracking
If you'd prefer better accuracy tracking of your staff members, you can change the relevant setting by logging into their Tradify app on their relevant device. Once there, navigate to Settings > Location Tracking > and turn off "Conserve battery life by using reduced accuracy location tracking".
How to enable and disable location tracking on Android and iOS devices
If you'd like the ability to enable or disable this setting, you can do so by following the steps below:
For Android Devices:
- Go to 'Settings' for your device
- Select 'Apps & Notifications'
- Select 'App Info'
- Select the Tradify app
- Select 'Permissions'
- From here, you can turn on/off location services.
For iOS Devices
- Go to 'Settings' for your device
- Select the Tradify app
- Select 'Location'
- From here you can turn Location Access to one of the following: Never, Whilst Using The App, and Always.
Reasons why location tracking isn't working
There are a few things that will limit the GPS coordinates from being sent.
- The user logs out of their Tradify app or closes it.
- The user disables their GPS tracking services within their mobile device settings.
- The user disables GPS tracking access on the Tradify app.
- The user no longer has an active connection to transmit the coordinates back to Tradify's servers.
Note: When the user locks their phone, or switches to another app, location tracking will still work as normal. If the user has multiple apps running, the user's device may kill the Tradify app to preserve device memory.
